Niseko Highland Cottages Website​

Niseko is a popular ski resort located in the northern part of the island of Hokkaido, Japan. The Niseko Highland Cottages have recently become very popular and in high demand. As a web designer/developer, my role was to enhance the user experience of Niseko Highland Cottages not only for their brand, but also for their users.

Problems

Recently, they have received a lot of demand from other countries despite the fact that our website is not available in English.
The booking system for the cottage is only available through email. This means that customers must always email directly to make a booking, resulting in unnecessary communication costs.
The website only displayed an email address and phone number, with no contact form. This can be inconvenient for customers who want to ask questions in real-time.
Maintaining the website themselves is difficult because they only upload files via FTP every time they make updates.

Solution

I used the WPML plugin to simplify my workflow. Without the plugin, I would need to set the Language URL Format and provide a switch button for users to change languages. Additionally, I would have to redirect users to the page in their browser’s language.
The best way for a user to install a booking system is directly on their website. However, due to limited budget and security concerns, I suggest using a payment and booking automation SaaS platform. The user can then be redirected from their website to the platform.
WordPress is open source, so there are many plugins available. I installed Contact Form 7 on their website. This plugin allows users to send emails directly from the website and is user-friendly.
WordPress is a CRM that is easy to manage. Users can update news posts themselves with ease.

Process

#1 Multilingual Website

This method is made easy by using the WPML plugin on WordPress. When you click on another language, it will redirect you to the chosen language. Additionally, it can detect your browser’s language and redirect to the appropriate page.

The language URL format is set to subdomain style.

If the user chooses Japanese, redirect to  https://www.nhcottages.net/

If the user chooses English, redirect to https://en.nhcottages.net/

#2 Use a payment and booking automation SaaS platform.

Clients may want to install a booking system directly onto their WordPress website, but due to budget constraints and security concerns, this is not the best practice. Instead, I suggest using a payment and booking automation SaaS platform and redirecting clients to it from the website.

I suggest using Airhost as a tool for managing bookings from your customers. Airhost is a SaaS platform for hotel management that offers efficient booking management, seamless contactless check-in processes, safe and secure payment processing, and Upsell & CRM capabilities. To use Airhost, redirect customers from the main website to the platform.

#3 Set a contact form

The only contact method available was through the mail or phone number displayed on the page. To set up a contact form, use the Contact Form 7 plugin.

This form is more user-friendly and avoids inconveniencing the customer.

#4 Setup WordPress

Set up WordPress makes it easy to manage news updates. You can easily post updates without having to upload them through FTP software.
WordPress is a CRM that is easy to manage. Users can update news posts themselves with ease.
They can make a post to update whenever they want. If they categorize the post as “news,” it will automatically appear in the news section on the top page.
